Our District Grant Each year our club applies for a grant from Rotary District 6190 to help fund a project selected by our club’s president. This year, President Joe selected the Renzi Education & Art Center located at 435 Egan St. Our Rotary District matched our club’s $2,000 for a total of $4,000. Renzi Center is in the heart of the Highland/Stoner Hill area. Its main project is its free After School Program, providing a safe and nurturing place for K-12 grade students to go after school. Each child receives one-on-one academic tutoring from certified teachers. 60 school children are served Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m.—6:00 p.m. and are also provided with a well-balanced nutritious meal from the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank. Our grant funds were used to purchase academic and art supplies, student backpack meals for the weekend, computer purchase, Microsoft software, internet and utilities support. Last Tuesday, President Joe presented the final funding for this grant to Renzi’s new executive director Omari Ho-Sang. It’s appropriate that our BPCC Rotaract Club has adopted Renzi as a partner for their community service work. Volunteer opportunities abound with possibilities for tutoring and general assistance. Rotaract has planned a neighborhood litter clean up with the students on Saturday, December 1 beginning at 9:30 a.m. We are invited to participate in this clean-up effort. If you are interested in doing this, please let Judy Bellew know. (Left) After presenting the balance of the grant funds, President Joe Littlejohn introduced Omari Ho-Sang, executive director of the Renzi Center.
Save The Date! Neighborhood Litter Clean-Up Saturday, December 1st , 9:30 a.m. Bring children/grandchildren See Judy Bellew for details! Of interest, the Rotary District’s funds are provided by a portion of the donations that our members make to The Rotary Foundation. The club’s portion of the funds are provided by all of our members through our dues structure which also funds all the civic grants, scholarships, Rotary Brain Bus and Rotaract Club support we give.

The Louisiana Association of School Superintendents has named Rotarian T. Lamar Goree as the 2019 Louisiana Superintendent of the Year. This award came as Dr. Goree prepares to mark his 5th year as Caddo School Superintendent. A product of Caddo Schools and a graduate of Huntington High School, Goree came to the district in December 2013 as Caddo faced a crisis regarding the future of its chronically underperforming schools as well as diminished morale from staff who felt the crunch of budget woes. Lamar joined our club just a couple of months after his return to Caddo and he has been an active participant in Rotary and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

Rotarian Sarah Collier and husband Mike were inducted into the 4-H Livestock Hall of Fame.
